Macadamia Nut

"Macadamia integrifolia"

A beautiful Hawaiian Hardwood introduced to the islands probably in the early 1890's. A small to medium tree that is grown primairly for it's nut, which is used in candy that is prized throughout the world. The tree grows to around 20-30 feet in height and 2-3 feet in diameter. Bark is a somewhat smooth, brown, with a beautiful reddish wood that frequently has a "flake" or "birdseye" look much like the african lacewood.

Macadamia Nut is a hard and dense wood that will require sharp blades to cut cleanly. The boards are usually small in width (1-5") and lengths run from 1- 4 feet. Thus, the wood is excellent for small items such as pens, bracelettes, bookmarks, perfume sticks and other gift items.
