Koa

"Acacia Koa"

Koa is the largest of the native trees of Hawaii. This beautiful tree has been used by Native Hawaiians for many uses, such as canoes, paddles, housing timbers, and carved figures. The wood is now enjoyed by many in flooring, bowl turnings, picture frames, gun stocks, musical instruments, cabinets and a number of other gift items. For a few more ideas of how Koa is used, make sure you check out our furniture page. The Koa tree is a large tree that can grow to past 100 ft. in height and 5 ft. or more in diameter. The bark is smooth and light grey in younger trees, becoming very rough, furrorwed and thick in later years. This moderately heavy wood can range in color from a golden/orange with ribbon grain to a deep reddish brown and often comes highly figured.
